Dark Shadows

What movies are out – Dark Shadows is the latest movie from collaboration between Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. Quote from what Ricky Gervais said in the event of 69^th Annual Golden Globe Awards that “Johnny Depp is the man who would literally wear anything Tim Burton tells him to”, without a doubt it is not only joke. Dark Shadows is the proving of it. Since Depp and Burton started their professional relationship in Edward Scissorhands (1990), Depp has become the actor who most often appear in Burton movies. In this Dark Shadows, Depp has to become an unusual character and wear complicated and unusual costume. Dark Shadows is a movie based on a classic television serial with the same title which played on 1966 until 1971. 

Dark Shadows also presents Helena Bonham Carter and Danny Elfman as musical director, two collaborators who also frequently appear in Burton movies. Dark Shadows start the story in 1970 by telling how a couple of Joshua and Naomi Collins with Barnabas, their young son, sailed from Liverpool, England to North America; there they will start their business. The Dark Shadows tells that they are made it, the business running successfully and after two decades the Collins family becomes rich and powerful. Dark Shadows story continued with the unfortunately that happens to Collins family. All the success became a nightmare when the couple’s con, Barnabas Collins, breaking the hearts one of their servants, Angelique Bouchard, whom a witch.

Dark Shadows start point is when Angelique gives curse to the Collins family, one after another bad luck, and the climax is made curse Barnabas into a vampire. By Angelique slander, Barnabas in time arrested by people because considers as a dangerous creature and then buried alive. It is the end of the first part of Dark Shadows and start of the whole story. Obviously we cannot say that Dark Shadows is a bad movie, but it also not a fantastic movie. The quality appropriately categorized as mediocre movie from Tim Burton. As the previous movie, Alice in Wonderland, this movie gets a lot attention because of its brilliant technical quality. Dark Shadows has wonderful technical audio, visual and costumes, but Dark Shadows lost its attractive in storytelling. As a drama, Tim Burton failed to elaborate the story and characters in Dark Shadows and as a comedy it also not really funny.
